Caravan renovation with the color palette "Spices" - Glamper Edition #11
Markus (36) and Steffi (31) had never seen themselves as campers. However, with their boys aged 5 and 1 1/2 years, they were looking for a weekend escape from everyday life. As luck would have it, their neighbor asked them in 2021 if they would like to take a look at her caravan. At first skeptical, the idea stuck with them.
The decision as to whether to buy a new or old caravan was quickly made in favor of an old model. The temptation to add a personal touch by renovating the caravan was too great. Had they been aware of the challenges, they might have hesitated - but so began an exciting adventure.
Unexpectedly, they discovered an advert while on holiday that they couldn't get out of their heads. On August 22nd, 2021, they became the proud owners of a 12-year-old Hobby Deluxe Easy 540 UK , which they lovingly named "Hubi".
What was the vision for the caravan renovation?
Markus and Steffi were pretty overwhelmed when they started renovating their Hubi caravan. They were very concerned about how and where to start, what color scheme would be suitable and what Hubi should ultimately look like. In search of inspiration, they scoured the internet for color schemes and color palettes. It was clear from the start that the kitchen should be a real eye-catcher. In the end, they chose the spice palette.
The choice of color for the kitchen led to intense discussions. Markus was enthusiastic about the idea of designing the kitchen in oxide orange , while Steffi was initially skeptical. But over time, she too discovered the beauty of the strong color. In winter 21/22, they started the project and began to expand Hubi. The first step was to paint the cabinet fronts in an elegant old white, the walls were given a soft beige tone, and the kitchen finally shone in striking oxide orange.
Best implementations and clever ideas
The wooden panelling along the bed adds a warm accent to the light tones of the interior. The bed's slatted frame can be raised to make it easier to access the water tank. This means they now sleep on a real mattress rather than on improvised camping cushions, which not only increases comfort but also makes it much easier to convert from the sofa to the bed at night.
3 upgrades that are taken into account in every subsequent caravan renovation
Painting the fronts in a light color was a time-consuming task that required a lot of patience.
Conversion to a fixed bed (if you don’t buy a camper with a fixed bed)
Disconnecting the gas unit in the camping kitchen (cooking only outside in the awning)
A purchase failure experience
Upcoming projects
"I actually still have a lot of projects in my head :D. I'm currently working on a DIY Macrame curtain for the door. The biggest project is probably next year. We want to reseal all window rubbers or replace them if necessary and give Hubi a very personal touch from the outside."
Favorite campsite
Definitely Camping Grubhof in St. Martin. Steffi and Markus became aware of this campsite through our Wildnest Instagram posts and are excited to share their experiences with readers and the community.
Advice to anyone who is about to renovate their caravan
Steffi and Markus would advise every camper: Just do it! A caravan renovation offers the chance to create something unique and to be proud of it. And the Hubi is a good example of how design can emerge during the process . At the beginning there was no clear vision and there were concerns about the color oxide orange. But the renovation has developed into a cozy and extremely stylish highlight. The ensemble of colors and wood tones is harmonious and hardly shows the caravan's 12 years.
