Caravan renovation in eclectic style - Glamper Edition #10
Traveling in a camper means freedom, adventure and immersion in different cultures. Heike and Augustin have managed to combine all of these elements in their camper and give it a very special touch. Their caravan renovation is absolutely successful and is not just a mobile home, but an artistic statement that harmoniously combines boho, Cameroonian and Mediterranean influences .
Heike, a native of Swabia, and Augustin, a native of Cameroon, live with their two children in Metzingen and share a deep passion for camping. For them, camping is the best way to spend their holidays.
Until four years ago, the family still traveled with a tent. But in March 2021, they fulfilled a long-held dream and bought a used caravan, a Knaus Sport 500 FDK, built in 2012. Including a DWT awning and all kinds of accessories that a camper's heart desires.
Heike and Augustin spent 16 weeks renovating the caravan and turning it into a boho oasis. From pure functionality to a successful symbiosis of design and function.
What was the vision for the caravan renovation?
Heike didn't have a vision when she started renovating her caravan. But when she bought the caravan, she knew she wanted to paint the dark furniture white and replace the red-grey fabrics with nicer ones. After the caravan was emptied, the intensive planning phase began. This took more time than she had initially thought.
Heike browsed through what felt like hundreds of blogs with tips and tricks for a caravan makeover, searched Pinterest for inspiration and watched numerous YouTube tutorials and Insta stories. Color cards and fabric samples were ordered and compared. In the end, she decided to design a boho feel-good oasis .
For Heike, every step of the caravan renovation was not only a creative challenge, but also an opportunity to add her personal touch. The choice of colors, patterns and textures.
Every brushstroke and every fabric cover has been carefully chosen to create a harmonious atmosphere that accompanies them both on their camping trips and in their everyday lives.
Best implementations and clever ideas
An aha moment for Heike was the discovery that you can use normal lamps in your caravan instead of having to resort to the often less aesthetic models from caravan accessories. With a simple 12-volt light bulb, she can conjure up a much more modern style.
Heike is particularly proud of her sleeping area. The design with the comfortable pillows and the new spring system in the bed make her feel as if she is sleeping on clouds. "It's just super cozy here," enthuses Heike. The combination of well thought-out design and comfortable furnishings makes this area particularly cozy in the renovated caravan.
For Heike and Augustin, their caravan renovation is not just a visual upgrade, but an improvement to their entire camping experience. Every detail has been chosen with love and contributes to their caravan being not just a vehicle, but a second home that accompanies them on their adventures.
The colour concept
With an eye for detail and design, Heike has transformed the caravan into a boho style that combines elegance and coziness. Decorated in white and beige , with subtle grey-green accents in the kitchen, the interior exudes a calm elegance. The use of terracotta gives the ensemble a touch of Mediterranean lightness , while gold and wood elements as well as rattan enrich the interior with warm accents.
One of Heike's particularly clever ideas was to attach a mirror to the bathroom door to visually enlarge the small caravan. This simple but effective measure creates an illusion of more space and at the same time increases the functionality of the room.
In the sleeping area, Heike uses a sophisticated mix of different textiles and textures. The combination of different shades of beige and white gives the bed a certain depth, while the room still remains bright and inviting. The result is a harmonious interplay of colors and textures that transforms the caravan into a stylish oasis.
Heike's tasteful design shows how thoughtful design and creative solutions can turn even a limited space into a beautiful and comfortable home.
3 upgrades that are taken into account in every subsequent caravan renovation
Always paint the furniture in light colours. The light colours make it look much bigger and lighter
Replace the fabrics. The light fabrics emphasize the whole thing and you can then add beautiful colorful accents with pillows and blankets, for example.
Pimping up the awning. In the past, they only paid attention to functionality and that everything would fit into the car. With a caravan, you can transport more, so the awning was pimped up with carpets, lamps and a beautifully laid table
A purchase failure experience
For their first vacation with the caravan, Heike and Augustin bought an aluminum ramp, which turned out to be completely useless.
Now they travel with an air cushion, which is much more practical.
Favorite pitch/campsite
"Camping Le Bodri in Corsica, which she has visited every summer for 30 years. Originally with her parents, later with her husband and children. The island fascinates with its untouched nature, dream beaches, mountains and the sea. There are no overcrowded hotel complexes, but rather protected landscapes and real encounters. Corsica has a special attraction that Heike can hardly put into words. Every visit brings new discoveries, such as a boat trip around Bonifacio, where she has never seen such deep blue water."
Advice to anyone who is about to renovate their caravan
Heike has often been asked how she managed to convince her husband to renovate their caravan. "Just do it. He'll be delighted in the end." Even small changes can have a big impact. New curtains, freshly made beds, some cozy pillows or artificial plants - all of these elements help to significantly improve the value of the room and make it more homely.
Heike and Augustin's caravan is a wonderful example of how a purely functional camper can become a small, bright and incredibly cozy oasis. The eclectic approach mixes different styles and textures to create a particularly exciting ensemble. This creative mix not only offers a varied but also a harmonious overall picture.
The careful selection of colors plays a crucial role in Heike's design. She deliberately chose light tones that make the room appear more spacious and inviting. She worked a lot with textiles and different textures . These elements not only add depth to the look, but also allow bright colors to shine in all their diversity.
There is always something new to discover in the caravan without the space appearing overloaded. The balance between stylish restraint and loving details is perfect. Every corner tells its own story, be it through artfully arranged decorations, elegant fabrics or cleverly placed accessories.
Heike's design shows how a caravan renovation can be transformed into a true oasis of well-being through thoughtful design and an eye for detail. It is proof that functionality and aesthetics can go hand in hand and that even limited space can become a stylish home with the right approach.
