Welcome to Katja's Home on Wheels - Glamping Makeover Edition 1
Step into Katja's motorhome, where the charm of days gone by meets modern elegance through a glamping makeover and every moment becomes a stylish journey. 🚐✨
As a child in the 80s, Katja toured Europe with her parents and her brother in a caravan.
Later on, he also enjoyed camping in nature and was thus also involved in camping for a while.
After renting a motorhome a few years ago, Katja and Jan quickly fell in love with the idea of having their own.
What was immediately clear to the family was that they wanted to buy an old camper so that they could design their camper exactly the way they wanted with a glamping makeover .
In 2021 the time had come and with their “Schnurrbert”, a Bürstner A576-2 active from 2001, they made their dream come true.
It's a stylish trip back in time, a glamper from another era mixed with modern chic.
Katja's glamping home could have come straight out of a stylish magazine. Simple white camping kitchen fronts and at the same time the old elements from 2001 still shine through.
The style in the motorhome has a modern minimalist feel, while sophisticated details such as linen curtains, cotton fruit nets and a jute hanging basket add a warm touch to the interior. Amidst the minimalist design, a wallpaper on the back wall with a repeating "fishbone pattern" is an eye-catcher.
Was there a design vision for the glamping makeover?
Katja actually quickly had a clear idea of the glamping makeover. Her immediate clarity about the desired ambience is reflected in a well-considered selection of light and airy tones. The first step in the glamping makeover in the motorhome was to paint everything in brilliant white . In doing so, Katja laid the foundation for her “Schnurrbert” makeover.
By skillfully integrating decoration and textiles, Katja set subtle but effective accents. Re-covering the upholstery with fabrics proved to be an absolutely clever idea, as this not only brightened the room visually, but also made it noticeably friendlier. The use of a color concept in white and beige gives the room a timeless elegance.
And the Bürstner “Schnurrbert” certainly seems to be timeless, after all it already has 23 years on its clock.
She currently draws inspiration from nature's color palette and prefers earth tones, which give the glamping area a warm, organic atmosphere . In her design art, function and aesthetics merge to create an inviting oasis that is perfect for both camping adventures and cozy moments at home.
Has anyone ever found dark veneer cabinets with dark fabrics beautiful? :-)
What 3 changes would you make in any future glamping makeover?
Painting furniture
Reupholster panels/seats
Sewing curtains
Is there another project coming up?
Basically, Katja is incredibly happy with the layout and equipment of her “Schnurrbert”. The motorhome is a space miracle at 6.10m .
However, the renovation of the camping bathroom is still pending. She lovingly calls the camping bathroom the yoghurt cup, but it will soon have to be replaced.
Your favorite pitch/campsite?
Katja enjoys the simple beauty of the French Atlantic coast , especially the quiet places behind the dunes with the surrounding pine trees. They visit this idyllic place every summer. In autumn they are drawn to the mountains, where they can best relax while hiking.
Because she lives near the Dutch border, Katja often takes spontaneous weekend trips to the neighboring country. She notices that the Dutch are pioneers when it comes to camping sites . Interestingly, camping in Germany doesn't appeal to her much. She obviously appreciates the relaxed atmosphere and the easy-going adventures that she finds in other countries.
Your advice to people who don’t dare to do a glamping makeover?
Just do it. Doing is like wanting, only more extreme :-)
Your favorite Wildnest products
We love the wine glasses from Wildnest. Enjoying a glass of ice-cold rose in front of your motorhome after a long day at the beach is the best thing you can do. We would like to have different dishes in the long term.
