Caravan renovation with your own carpentry skills - Glamper Edition #15

Caro, 31, has always had camping in her blood. As a long-time camper who has felt at home on every campsite since childhood, the step to owning her own caravan was only a matter of time.

And then came 2020. With the onset of the pandemic and the urge to tackle new projects, she found distraction in renovating a caravan. Her Hobby DeLuxe 370 from 1989 was the perfect model: small, handy and ideal for going out alone as a single. The first encounter was love at first sight.

❁ What was the vision for the caravan renovation?

Caro started with a clear plan for the caravan renovation of her Hobby DeLuxe 370 - or so she thought . But as with any creative process, the vision evolved as she worked. The original ideas were discarded, new concepts emerged, and in the end the caravan renovation project took a completely different direction than she had first imagined.

As a carpenter with her own carpentry business, Caro is at home in the world of furniture and interior design. Her experience and her feel for materials helped her make the right decisions, even though the caravan presented a particular challenge. Despite its age, it was in excellent condition, which gave her the opportunity to concentrate fully on the aesthetic redesign . It was clear from the start: the frame fronts should stay . Instead of tearing everything out, Caro decided to reinterpret the existing elements - with a fresh coat of paint.

The choice of colors was a combination of light tones that would make the interior appear larger and airier, paired with natural materials that provide warmth and coziness. Wood played a central role, in keeping with her love of natural materials and handcrafted details. Every piece of furniture, every front and every shelf was carefully selected and integrated into the new look. This created a harmonious interplay of functionality and style - a real eye-catcher in the interior design of her caravan.

❁ The colour concept

The color concept of Caro's caravan renovation revolved around the perfect balance between light, friendly tones and natural materials. White formed the basis - a decision that makes the room appear larger and gives it an airy, timeless atmosphere. But it was important to her that the look was not too sterile or monotonous. This is where the natural materials came into play: real wood, cork, raffia and water hyacinth created a warm, inviting environment that perfectly complemented the minimalist white tone.

The highlight of her color concept, however, was the kitchen. Instead of keeping this area white, Caro decided on a bold accent: the kitchen block was given a rich black coat of paint . This strong element deliberately breaks with the otherwise natural look and gives the interior more depth and character . The contrast between the light natural materials and the dark kitchen makes a stylish statement and gives the caravan that certain something extra that makes it so unique.

❁ Best implementations and clever ideas

Caro has simply redesigned the large classic caravan: the original seating area has been transformed into a permanent bed, complete with a sturdy slatted frame and a mattress that promises maximum comfort. This not only eliminates the need for annoying conversions , but also creates a permanently comfortable retreat.

A charming detail is the cork wall in the remaining seating area. Caro brings a postcard from each of her travel destinations and attaches it to the pin board. With each trip, the camper grows into a living travel diary . And as a special bonus, her little nieces' artwork has found a permanent place here, and their pictures always conjure up new stories in the room.

The kitchen area was originally equipped with a gas hob and a small sink under a flap - practical but inflexible. As soon as the flap was used as a storage area, access to the sink and hob was blocked. Caro replaced this solution with a stylish real wood worktop and installed a larger, always accessible sink. She completely removed the gas cooker because she loves cooking in the open air in her outdoor camping kitchen .

❁ 3 upgrades that are taken into account in every subsequent caravan renovation

Camper bed with slatted frame and mattress
Caro has quickly transformed the old seating area into a solid bed that is a real eye-catcher. No remodeling, just pure relaxation!

The large roof hatch – plenty of light and air
Its transparent roof hatch is a real light miracle. It lets the sun in and at the same time ensures the perfect supply of fresh air. This means the camper always feels airy and bright.

Kitchen 2.0 – function meets design
No more impractical flap! The gas hob was replaced with a stylish real wood hob and a larger sink was installed. She moved the gas cooker out of the kitchen – cooking outside is simply better!

❁ A fail-buying experience

At first, Caro wanted to put up a stylish wallpaper on the seating area. But when she looked into the topic of wallpapering more closely and realized how complicated the whole thing would be, she changed her mind. Instead, she chose a cork wall - not only much easier to implement, but also practical for recording memories and creative ideas. This turned a planned wallpaper highlight into a much more personal solution.
